3D Posters Explained: How Lenticular Anime Posters Work (and How to Hang Them)

A 3D poster looks like a normal print until you move. Walk past it and Luffy's Gear 5 awakens, Gojo's Hollow Purple fires, or Miles Morales drops into the Spider-Verse. No screen, no battery, no app. Here's how it works and how to get the best out of one.

What is a lenticular poster?

A lenticular poster is a printed image covered by a sheet of tiny parallel lenses, called lenticules. Behind the lenses, two or more images are sliced into thin strips and interleaved. Each lens shows your eye a different strip depending on the angle you look from, so as you move, the picture flips, animates or appears to have depth.

That's why these are sometimes called 3D posters, motion posters or flip posters. They're all the same optical trick.

Flip, motion and depth: the three effects

  • Flip – two or three completely different images, for example a character before and after a transformation.
  • Motion – several frames of one scene, so a sword swing or an energy blast plays out as you walk by.
  • Depth – layered artwork that makes the foreground look like it's floating in front of the background.

Where to hang a 3D poster

The effect depends on movement, so placement matters more than with a normal print:

  • Put it where people walk past – a hallway, beside a door, or opposite your desk chair. Side-to-side movement shows the animation best.
  • Hang it at eye level. Too high or too low and you'll only see one frame.
  • Avoid direct glare. A lamp or window reflecting straight off the surface washes the effect out. Light from the side works best.
  • Keep it flat. Our posters come with a rigid backing so the lenses stay aligned. A frame or strong double-sided mounting strips work well.

Choosing your design

Pick the scene you'd want to see a hundred times a day. Transformation and power-up moments work brilliantly as flips, while fight scenes and attacks shine as motion effects. Our 3D posters collection covers One Piece, Naruto Shippuden, Dragon Ball Z, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Solo Leveling, Dandadan and Marvel's Spider-Man. Sizes and finishes are listed on each product page.

Caring for a lenticular poster

  • Dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Don't use glass cleaner or anything abrasive on the lens surface.
  • Don't roll or fold it – creasing the lens sheet permanently breaks the effect.
  • Keep it out of strong, direct sunlight to avoid fading over time.

Want the effect on a smaller scale?

The same lenticular technology is in our 3D motion stickers (13 × 13 cm) and mini stickers, made for laptops, phones, bottles and notebooks.
